Minors Policy

At MSC Cruises, we take pride in creating incredible holiday experiences the whole family can share and in our ability to cater to the individual needs of everyone, from children and tweens to teenagers and parents.

We have recently updated our Corporate Minors Policy, effective May 15th, 2025, to ensure the well-being of all individuals on board. You can find these changes below, and we trust they will help you better assist you in choosing the perfect family cruise.

Infants on board

Starting from 15 May 2025, infants under 2 years old are admitted on board, except for cruises starting from 11 nights onwards, for which it is required that the minor is at least 2 years old at the moment of embarkation.

Minors on board

Generally, MSC Cruises does not permit minors (those under 21 on U.S. itineraries, or under 18 on others) to occupy a cabin without the presence of at least one adult. To be considered an adult, passengers must be 18 or 21 years old at the time of embarkation, depending on the itinerary.

However, an exception applies for minors under 18 travelling with one parent or legal guardian, provided the following conditions are met:

• The parent /legal guardian must specifically request at the time of booking that the minors be assigned a cabin without an adult and sign a liability waiver, which must be submitted to the Contact Centre.
• The parent/guardian is travelling with 2 to 5 minors.
• The cabin is occupied by either one minor aged 12 or older, or two minors, with the eldest at least 12 and the youngest at least 8.
• No more than two minors may occupy a cabin without an adult.

For MSC Lirica, Musica, and Fantasia class ships:

Parent/guardian and minors must stay in connecting cabins, and the balcony of the minors' cabin will be locked.

For all other MSC ships:

The parent or legal guardian and the minor(s) shall be accommodated in connecting cabins with the minor cabin's balcony being locked or in interior adjacent cabins**.

The parent or legal guardian shall be required to purchase a bracelet to have access to the cabin occupied by the minor(s) at any time during the cruise.

Travelling Alone on U.S. Itineraries

Travellers of all nationalities must be at least 21 years old to travel alone on cruises embarking from or travelling to the US. However, guests aged 18-20 may stay in a cabin alone if travelling with someone aged 21 or older, without needing to meet the additional cabin requirements.

Please note:

* Infants are permitted on 11-night cruises or longer only if they turn one year old on or before the day of embarkation.

** "Adjacent cabins" is defined as two cabins, at least one without a balcony, which have no more than 3 cabins between them, and that pertain to the same assembly station and corridor. "Connecting cabins" is defined as to cabins that are connected by an internal door.

Smoking Policy

In line with global standards, smoking areas on board are fewer than non-smoking areas and are indicated by signage and ashtrays. Smoking is forbidden in all indoor areas, with the sole exception of the casinos during opening hours for Guests who are seated and playing.

Smoking (including e-cigarettes) is not permitted in cabins, on cabin balconies and anywhere not expressly indicated by signage and ashtrays.

Please note that the use and import of vapes-and e-cigarettes in certain countries may be restricted and local authorities are entitled to impose severe sanctions against the violation of their national law(e.g. as of January 17th, 2026, Mexico has banned the importation of all vapes and e-cigarettes, including non-nicotine models. Guests bringing these devices ashore risk confiscation and fines of up to USD $12,500.). Therefore, make sure to check if any national restriction may apply when ashore and act accordingly.

For safety reasons, and to minimize the serious fire risk posed by smoking in unauthorized areas, the Company reserves the right to levy a fee should passengers be found smoking in non-designated areas of the vessel. Repeatedly smoking in non-smoking areas can ultimately lead to disembarkation.

We remind you that throwing cigarette butts or anything else overboard at sea is strictly prohibited as it may seriously put in danger safety at sea.

The impact of AQUA by MSC 

As part of MSC Cruises commitment to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles on our ships, this new concept, AQUA by MSC, is a key part of this effort. 

With the full roll-out of AQUA by MSC across our fleet, we're eliminating an average of over 4 million plastic water bottles every month.

How does the Fun Pass work?

By purchasing the Fun Pass online you can enjoy extra credits to use on board in the Amusement area. The Fun Pass can be linked to 1 guest account only, but it can be used by the whole family. Once the credit is finished, the cost of each attraction will be charged on your cruise account.

You can buy the Fun Pass on board in the Amusement Area, or book online before your cruise and enjoy exclusive online savings.

FAQs

Is the Fun Pass unlimited?

No. The Fun Pass includes a fixed amount of credits. Once the available credits are used, guests may purchase an additional Fun Pass or continue playing with individual charges.

What is included in the Fun Pass?

The Fun Pass may be used on all arcade games and interactive attractions within the Amusement Area, subject to availability, technical conditions, and any applicable restrictions, which may vary by ship.

What is not included in the Fun Pass?

The Fun Pass can be used for all Amusement Area attractions and video games available on board. It cannot be used for any activities, attractions, or services ashore, including those available at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.

How can I buy a Fun Pass and do I need to activate it?

The Fun Pass can be purchased:

• Online before your cruise (prepaid option)
• On board at the Amusement Desk.

If purchased online, no activation is required, as prepaid Fun Passes are automatically activated once you are on board and linked to your cruise card, subject to system availability.

How do I use my Fun Pass?

To access a game or attraction, scan your cruise card at the relevant reader, subject to availability and operational conditions. The corresponding number of credits will be deducted automatically.

How can I check my remaining Fun Pass credits?

You can check your remaining Fun Pass credit balance in the MSC for Me app under MSC Concierge > Balance, subject to system availability.

Your balance may also be displayed on the card reader after each transaction when you scan your cruise card at a game or attraction. Alternatively, visit the Amusement Desk during opening hours.

On ships with a ticketless system, you can also check your prize ticket balance at the Prize Store or merchandiser ticket station. Tickets are automatically deducted when you select and redeem a prize.

What happens when my Fun Pass credits run out?

Once your credit balance reaches zero, you may: - Purchase a new Fun Pass, or - Continue playing with individual charges applied to your onboard account.

Can I pay per game without a Fun Pass?

Yes. Guests may choose to pay individually for each game or attraction without purchasing a Fun Pass.

Can my family share one Fun Pass?

Yes. Guests staying in the same cabin may share a single Fun Pass. All usage is deducted from the same credit balance.

Can I transfer my Fun Pass to another cabin?

A Fun Pass may only be reassigned if it has not been used. Once credits have been consumed, the Fun Pass cannot be transferred to another cabin.

Can I set spending limits for my children?

Parents or guardians may set general onboard spending limits for children by visiting Guest Services.

Can children use attractions on their own?

Children may use attractions independently where permitted; however, adult supervision is strongly recommended. Parents and guardians remain responsible for usage and onboard charges. Spending limits are advised to help manage onboard charges.

Service Animals

No animals are allowed on board, apart from recognised assistance dogs.

Bringing assistance dogs on board is, in any case, subject to approval by the company and must be requested by the Guest when booking.

1.8.1 WHEN A DOG IS A SERVICE ANIMAL

A service dog is a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability. The task(s) performed by the dog must be directly related to the person's disability. MSC welcomes service dogs on board its cruise vessels, provided they are in good health and in possession of all documents necessary for entry to the foreign countries visited during the cruise. For cruises including UK waters, the dog must be a full member of either Assistance Dogs International (ADI) or International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF).

Service dogs who are still in training, emotional support and companion animals are not recognized as assistance dogs, hence not allowed on MSC vessels.

1.8.2 SERVICE DOG ONBOARD A CRUISE SHIP

MSC Cruises can provides a relief area with mulch but the guest, on his/her part, undertakes to be personally responsible for the custody, nutrition and general care of the animal throughout the period spent on board (with the help of a carer or fellow traveler if applicable) and for the possible damage caused by their service dog. If the service dog's behavior creates a fundamental alteration or a direct threat to safety, the dog may be denied boarding or removed from the ship along with the owner at the guest's expense. Service dogs are permitted to accompany the person with a disability in all public areas, including dining venues. While in public areas, dogs must be on a leash, harness, or other restraining device. Due to health regulations, service dogs are not permitted in recreational water facilities: pools, whirlpools, spray parks or Spa facilities.

If the guest chooses to disembark the ship at a port at which the service dog must remain onboard, the guest must make arrangements to ensure that the dog is cared for. Note that the ship's staff are not available nor trained to care for the dog, nor can the dog be left in the cabin unattended.

We do not offer the service of a vet on board and the ship's doctors are unable to assist. Due to the nature of some shore excursions, kindly note service animals may not be permitted.

1.8.3 SERVICE DOG’S DOCUMENTATION

It's the guest's responsibility to ensure that all documents related to the service dog are in compliance with all local regulations for each port of call of the itinerary and are submitted to the company at least 60 days prior to the start of the cruise.

Please note that for the Worldcruise, documentation needs to be presented to the company at least 6 months prior to start the cruise as its special itinerary calls to more than 15 countries, and 50 ports, some of them very remote and with very strict bio-security requirements.

Hard copies of the documents must be provided at embarkation and to Reception-Guest Service once onboard.

Please be advised that in some ports of call the service dog might not be allowed to get off, according to local immigration rules.

The documentation and immunization requirements are established by government authorities and not MSC Cruises. Please note requirements are subject to change without notice, and travel plans/certifications shall be shared with us to confirm compliance with all destinations Port Health Authorities, considering the departure/transit ports too. If any problem is experienced with the dog documentation upon entry in any port, all related costs for either the quarantine of or re-export of the dog will be the dog owner responsibility. Pet Passport and Third Country Certificates must be signed, dated and stamped by an Official Certified Veterinarian. Please be aware that obtaining those permits can take weeks or months, and some countries may not allow animals to enter at all. Copies of completed permits for each port of call must be sent to us as soon as available, prior to the sail date.

Documentation that is required includes but not limited to:

• A brief, written explanation of what specific tasks the animal has been trained to perform must be provided. This can be added to the notes section of the Accessibility and Medical Request form. In accordance with some specific local regulations, a training certificate might be requested as well.
• Veterinarian certificate stating that the animal is healthy.
• Department of Agriculture permits
• The animal’s compulsory identification document issued by the competent local health authority, stamped within the 24 hours preceding the journey by the veterinarian certifying the animal’s physical condition (for itineraries in European waters) 

Medical Centre

Our onboard medical centres are available 24/7 for emergencies. In addition, we offer twice daily clinics for routine medical needs.

Our onboard medical facilities meet or exceed the standards for cruise ship medical centres adopted by CLIA and include some diagnostic and treatment abilities; however, the ship’s medical centers do not have the same resources as a land-based hospital. They are staffed by full-time registered doctors and nurses, including paramedics on some ships. Their primary role is to provide emergency medical care and short-term treatment, rather than long-term nursing care. Guests unable to manage their daily personal care activities (feeding, bathing, dressing and toileting etc.) should travel with a caregiver who can assist with these tasks.

Please be advised that the non-medical staff on board are not specifically trained to give daily care and are not able to assist guests with personal tasks or personal hygiene needs (eating, dressing, bathroom or bathing). 

Laundry Services

Everyone loves the feel of freshly-laundered clothes and the convenience of a same-day laundry service. That's why we offer several Laundry Service Packages to choose from.

Dress Code

Daytime Attire: Casual wear is recommended for daytime attire. Shorts and T-shirts are permitted.

Evening Wear: A more polished look is recommended for evening wear when dining in the main dining rooms, speciality restaurants and while enjoying the entertainment in the theatre, bars, and lounges. Collared shirts, tailored trousers or shorts, skirts, and dresses are suggested. It is advisable to layer clothing and bring a light jacket or jumper for cooler nights and the ship's air-conditioned public areas.

Gala Night: On Gala Night, dress to impress! Whether that means a tuxedo, suit and tie, an evening gown or cocktail dress, or perhaps it's your very best jeans and polo shirt, your attire should fit your own level of elegance. The only thing required is your smile.

Theme parties: We organise various daytime and evening theme parties on board. You may wish to bring bright, fun clothes for the Sunshine Party and something white for the White Party.

Sports lovers: For sports lovers, gym shoes and tracksuits are must-haves when using our cutting-edge gym and attending yoga and dance courses, where available.

Northern Europe cruises: For cruises sailing towards the Svalbard Islands and Polar areas, please ensure you have adequate polar clothing.

Shore Excursions: For shore excursions, which may include visits to religious sites, we advise that appropriate clothing should be worn (covered knees and shoulders).

Dress Restrictions: Specific restrictions may be enforced by onboard staff members, including restaurant hostesses and management. At no point is swimwear allowed in any formal dining venue for any meal, including breakfast and lunch. Shorts, flip-flops, and tank tops are not allowed for evening wear or Gala Night in the main dining rooms, speciality restaurants, or MSC Yacht Club. T-shirts are not allowed to be worn on Gala Night. Dress code rules that are posted outside the buffet should be followed.

If I book an Explorer Package, do my children go for free with me?

• Depending on the age of your child the Explorer Package price varies:
• Child price is applicable to guests between 3 and 13 years old.
• Babies and infants aged 2 and younger are free of charge.

Guests' age is to be considered at the moment of disembarkation.

How are the included Excursions selected?

Who can book the Easy and Accessible shore excursions?

These easy tours are available for all guests and are wheelchair accessible. This program is designed to provide memorable, enjoyable experiences for limited-mobility guests, seniors, and anyone who enjoys a slower pace, as well as their families.

How are the Easy & Accessible shore excursions different from other regular shore excursions?

Easy & Accessible excursions are unique in that they offer:

How big are the groups for the Easy & Accessible shore excursions?

To make these tours more enjoyable, group sizes are smaller than regular tours - these are not large motor coach groups. For most tours, small accessible vans are used.

How will the guide assist me with my mobility needs?

The tour guides conducting these accessible tours have several years of experience in touring with limited mobility guests and their families. They are patient, compassionate and very knowledgeable. Please note that guides are not permitted to push wheelchairs. Guests in wheelchairs must be able to self-propel or have a companion push them.

What can I expect from my Easy & Accessible shore excursions?

Accessible shore excursions are authentic experiences, designed to limit the amount of walking, without compromising on the experience. If you are asking yourself: "Will I get to leave the bus?", the answer is "Yes!". While other tours labelled as "accessible" only allow you to see the destination through a bus window, MSC Cruises offers wheelchair accessible shore excursions that include inside visits to castles, churches, museums, palaces, and historic ruins.

How do I make sure my mobility equipment isn't too big or too heavy for the excursion?

For each Easy & Accessible tour, the maximum combined weight allowed (equipment + mobility user) as well as maximum equipment dimension allowed (height, length, and width) are provided in their tour description notes. Please make sure to carefully check and verify that your equipment respects the dimensions allowed before booking the tour.

When should I book my Easy & Accessible shore excursion?

We suggest you book your Easy & Accessible shore excursion at least 2 months before your cruise in order to secure your space.

Can I cancel my booked Easy & Accessible shore excursion?

It is possible to cancel your booked Easy & Accessible tours up to 4 days prior to your cruise departure date.

Onboard Language

The company uses six main languages for its communications: English, Italian, German, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. The order in which these languages appear is determined exclusively by the number of guests in each language group as a proportion of our total guests. The cabin information booklet and other printed material used on board are available in different versions for each of the six languages listed above. The order of the languages used in our menus changes depending on the area of the world in which each ship is located.

Payment Methods

All on board purchases can be made with the personal cruise card, eliminating the need to carry cash or credit cards on board. After embarking and collecting the Cruise Card from your cabin, You should activate it for onboard purchases by self-registering your credit/debit/prepaid card at one of the Cruise Card Activation Points. You can do this independently, at any time from embarkation until 11:00 pm the following day, at any of the Cruise Card Activation Points located around the ship. These new devices let you register your card simply, rapidly and securely. Please note that you will be asked to enter the PIN number. Alternatively, you can leave cash deposit at the Reception – Guest Service.

What credit cards are accepted?

Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, and Diners Club.

You can settle your final bill in any of the following three ways:

By credit card

The following credit cards are accepted: Visa, MasterCard, Diners, JCB, Discover and American Express. If you choose to pay by credit card, your account will be closed automatically at the end of the cruise, so there is no need to go to the Reception - Guest Service.

By debit or prepaid card

You should make sure that your debit/prepaid card is enabled for use abroad. The following debit cards are accepted: Maestro, Visa Debit, Visa Electron, MasterCard debit Any amount debited to your card and not spent during your cruise will be reimbursed in cash at the Reception - Guest Service on the final morning before disembarkation.

In cash

Any amount deposited in cash and not spent during the cruise will be reimbursed in cash at the Reception - Guest Service on the final morning before disembarkation. Please note that personal cheques are not accepted. For cruises in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Antilles, Dubai, the Emirates and Oman, as well as MSC Grand Voyages departing from Europe, the onboard currency is the Euro (€). For cruises in the Caribbean, Bermuda, Canada & New England,South America ,South Africa, China, Japan and Republic of Korea as well as MSC Grand Voyages going to Europe and to Australia, the onboard currency is the US Dollar ($). The onboard currency for cruises departing from Southampton will be the British Pound (£).

Europe: EC Regulation 1889/2005 states that: "Any natural person entering or leaving the Community and carrying cash of a value of Euro 10,000 or more shall declare that sum to the competent authorities of the Member state through which he is entering or leaving the Community in accordance with this Regulation".

Please consult your travel agent and/or the relevant authorities (embassies, consulates or other local authorities) to find out whether there are any other restrictions to carrying cash on your itinerary.
